How to enable Microsoft ESU for Windows 10

Microsoft has rolled out ESU - Extended Security Updates. To enable this you will need to do the following:

  1. Ensure that your Windows 10 device is updated to Version 22H2 (or required servicing baseline).
  2. Have a Personal Microsoft Account. https://login.live.com

Then simply follow these steps:

  • Ensure that your computer is signed into your Microsoft Account
    • Settings > Accounts. Windows will give an option to sign into a Microsoft Account if you are not already signed in.
  • Go to Windows Updates and Enroll.
    • Settings> Windows Updates. There should now be an option to enroll for ESU.
    • During this process, it will prompt you to Back Up via OneDrive, and you can either select everything, or just the computer settings. If you have the free Microsoft Account, you will only have 5GB of Cloud Storage, so it may be best for free accounts to only select the computer settings to back up.
    • Once the wizard has completed, the device will be enrolled for ESU till October 2026.
    • Repeat on all Windows 10 Devices.

This will prolong your support till October 2026, to provide additional time to plan a migration to a Windows 11 device.
